About Us
Trees of Corrales was incorporated in 1976. In the beginning, TOC was solely a field grower of medium to large caliper specimen trees. In the mid 90’s, a container division was developed specializing in cold hardy, drought tolerant native plants. The container division has grown to include a full line of ornamental grasses, perennials, woody shrubs and container trees. The sizes offered from this division range from flats of quarts to twenty-five-gallon trees and shrubs.
All our plants – both field and container grown are acclimated to the harsh climatic conditions of the arid southwest. We are uniquely situated in the Rio Grande valley, bordered by a high desert environment exceeding 5,000 feet in elevation. As a result, our products transplant readily, even in locations with cold winters, hot summer and minimal rainfall.
Trees of Corrales began modestly with an initial planting of 1,400 trees and a labor force of one. We now have over 60,000 trees in our growing fields and a year-round labor force exceeding 60 employees.
The original farm, located in Corrales, NM has been in the Koontz family for more than 70 years. In 2017, additional farmland (field tree production only) was purchased in the Pecos River Valley, south of Fort Sumner, NM.
The container division that was initiated 20+ years ago, now comprises a broad range of ornamental grasses, perennials, woody shrubs and container trees. These plants are grown, like our trees, under harsh conditions so they transplant readily in a variety of climatic zones.
TOC Ltd. serves as a supplier to independent garden centers and landscape distribution centers.
